Google to charge for vanity URLs?

The other day Google announced that they were opening up custom / vanity URLs and we've watched hundreds of Tweets, Facebook Updates and the likes as people claim their names and/or company names. What most people don't do is read the fine print - this time it is a good idea to read them because Google have stated that they might charge users for the vanity URL: Google Vanity URL

We haven't seen much information on this, but it's something to keep an eye on. Of all the services online, if Google did charge they would be the first to do so and I think the public would be up in arms about it. Google would take a big bash for charging for something that really doesn't cost them anything - from a technical point of view it's neither here nor there cost wise.

Have you claimed your vanity URL?
