The end of author photos in search results

John Mueller, a webmaster trends analyst at Google announced that Google will soon be dropping the authorship photographs that we see in the search results for most cases. This change has come in as Google are trying to clean up the search results and are focusing on mobile display. Cyrus Shepard created a mockup of what we can expect the search results to look like:

Google News, however, is going to be slightly different though in that they’ll be showing the author picture of credible authors:

It’s a shame as so many people have spent time linking their websites to their Google+ profiles and have concentrated on building some kind of credibility on Google+ so to see this feature removed will upset a lot of people. However, it’s not all doom and gloom, an author’s name will still appear in the search results which is better than nothing and keeping up with your credibility will still provide you with value in the future so don’t give up simply because of this.

We’ll be watching these changes closely and will report back as and when Google announce any further changes.

On a positive note, it’s #subdayfriday
